Our Song

It became the habit during conferences to have a very relaxed function on the Saturday night. At one such function a group came up with what they called the Soil Association song which went as follows.

The Song of the Soil & Health Association

We’re the Soil Association
And our alms are plain to state.
We want to eliminate poison sprays
And get healthy food on our plate;
We’ll clean up the rivers and lakes and sea
So the fish are nice to eat
And everyone is strong and healthy -
It’s not an impossible feat, to make

Clean green New Zealand
That’s what we’re fighting for
Where skies are clear and joy abounds
What can we ask for more
With toil and sweat we can get there soon
And I’m sure we all have read
We’ve got to get it right in a year or so
Or else we’ll all be DEAD.

We want sustainable growth of crops
In ways that don’t ruin the ground
Not self destructive practices
Or principles unsound.
We can all live happy and healthy
If all these things are done
And at last in a lovely country
We can all have some fun in -

By cleaning up the diet
And hyperactive kids are fixed
And their classes aren’t a constant riot.
It’s a worthwhile goal and life will be good
When we’ve all these things right
So let’s get together with strong resolve
And be ready to work and fight for -
